Fixing Status 7 error during OTA update or Custom ROMs installation

 

Hello everyone! Welcome to flash stock ROM. Today, I’m going to guide you through the detailed post for fixing status 7 error which occurs during Custom ROMs installation. Sit back and enjoy the post, feel free to drop any comments on queries if any.

Android, a reason of relief for most of the Smartphone users of the world. Being an open source, it has let us do almost everything from our end to have control on all required things. Gaining root access, installing stock ROM, Custom ROM and what not! This is the main reason why we don’t settle up with one system recovery on our device. We keep jumping from one to another.

Most of the people who are savvy about the mobile devices have tried flashing their device at least once on their own. If it’s a favourite hobby of yours, then I you might have come across so much ups and downs. Flashing, installing custom recovery is not a cakewalk. We get numerous different weird problems every now and then. Today, I’m going to walk you through one such errors which occurs during Custom ROM/ OTA update installation. I have not picked this as a random error, but it’s a most usually occurring one.

How do I fix it?!

Who would like to have the same kinda interfaces for very long? Change being an inevitable part of our life has become an essential one as well. We do try with different kernels, ROMs to have everything changed and experience new interfaces. Some updates which are rolled out would not reach some people for some unknown reasons. So, OTA installation is done sometimes. As some people may pass through without any challenges, some others face issues as well. One such major issue is Status 7 error. I have attached all those error messages which an individual usually face during the installation.

Try to take a closer look at the errors. We can easily understand that it is speaking something about system partition and its modification. Make sure that you have the root access permission first. There are some reasons for the problem. It might occur due to one of these below mentioned reasons.

1. Custom ROM may not be installed yet on the device.
2. Deletion of some system apps from cleaning boats.
3. Not flashing the kernel properly
4. Installing some system app or sound mod on the device.
5. Using some apps which make the system stuck in this error such as Titanium backup or some other similar apps.

But, I would recommend you to go back to system stock by flashing the stock firmware from my experience to get this issue solved.

Detailed steps to get the issue solved:

I hope everyone knows about TWRP and CWM recovery applications. If you have tried installing Custom ROMs from any of these apps and have got the error, then you can try these below mentioned resolutions.

1. If you have got this while doing from CWM, then better you use TWRP or PhilZ for the same as they help you in smooth process when compared to CWM.

 

Steps:

1. Get a copy of ROM file and copy it on an easily accessible place.
2. Unzip the file when you are done with the copying.
3. Browse for the path META-INF/com/google/android from the file after extracting.
4. You should get the below shown files when you open it.                                                                                        
   
5. Select the updater-script to updater-script.txt
   
6. Save it and open the same from notepad.
7. Remove the first line as shown below from the same.                                                                                 
   
8. Save it once done with deleting.
9. Now, select the same file and rename back to the initial one.
10. Now, go to the ROM folder path and select everything over there.
    
11. Compress the same to a zip file.
12. Copy this to the device and install this on your device.
