TWRP vs CWM : Which custom recovery is the best & Why

Hello Everyone! Welcome to flash stock ROM. Today I’m going to walk you through the best Custom recovery tools and which one to choose, that is TWRP “Team Win Recovery Project” vs CWM “Clockwork Mod recovery” . I have been asked many times as in which one to be selected. Relax and go through the post in detail. Custom Android ROM is nothing but a third party version of an Android Operating system. They can be used to upgrade an existing operating system, restore the device to factory default settings and to perform some diagnostic tasks.

It is an upgraded version of pure android Operating system developed by community of developers around the world. This gives control of root access to the users strengthening the hold of customers on their own phone, whereas the stock hinders their customers from doing so. Customising the apps up to the base level not only gives the freedom but also improvises the user attraction towards it. These Custom ROMs do not come up with preinstalled Applications. It allows the individual to optimise apps on their own, restrict the usage, permission settings etc. Everyone has the normal tendency to get bored after the frequent use of the User interfaces, apps or anything be it be. Using long term would make it less interactive. To keep everyone using it efficiently, Custom ROM rolls out the new updates very often.

I will give you the details of comparison on each of the parts of the tool. Go through and select accordingly.

Interface Difference:

Both of the tools have different interfaces depending on their own design. Go through the attached screenshot below to see the difference.

The TWRP Custom recovery tool has user friendly interface with large buttons in comparison with CWM tool. The number of options provided is more as well. The battery percentage indicator, time is some additional things which can be found. The TWRP interface supports screen touch.

The CWM tool interface does not match with the class of TWRP to be honest. You should use the volume buttons to navigate as it doesn’t support screen touch. The options are too small and not as good looking as TWRP.

If you ask me to recommend one, then for interface I would recommend TWRP over CWM.

Package Installation TWRP vs CWM

The installation package has much difference between TWRP and CWM as well. The TWRP installation is pretty simple compared to CWM on a broader sense again. When clicked on the package, it will directly ask you to select the installation zip file and can install in a very short time.

Whereas, in case of CWM, it showcases 4 options which are pretty difficult to understand if you are a starter. In TWRP you can install the Zip package by swiping the swipe button easily but in CWM you have to navigate to install option using hardware buttons. Installation time depends on the size of the package so TWRP and CWM have nothing to do with package installation time.

If you again ask me to select one, I would again go for TWRP.

Backup and Restore Comparison

Let’s go with internal in hand working difference between the two. Just go through the below screenshots to find out the options available under each of them.

In CWM if you select backup it will have options for the backup of user data, kernel, cache, and system data. You can find the same in the attached snapshot.  It will take 4-5 minutes for MD5 generation during backup. The problem here during the CWM backup is storage issue. Low memory space causes the display of the error. Backup option in TWRP is better and customized for easy backup than CWM. You can select the particular things which you want to backup.

If is size is low, then the compression of the file is there as well. You can also skip MD5 signature as well. The error which is usually faced here is MD5 mismatch error. Just search our page to find the solution if you get it. I would again go for TWRP.

Rebooting option Comparison:

This Reboot option is to come out from the recovery mode and to get the phone back in normal mode. In TWRP, the reboot option is built with some advanced options as well, which includes System recovery, Download from recovery mode and all. But, in CWM there is only one option which is to boot the system from recovery to system mode.

So, again obviously, TWRP is a winner.

Comparison with advanced Options:

This contains lot of options in it. All of which are self-explanatory. It just does as the name suggests. If you want to know in depth, then refer to the detailed post written in the past.

So, considering all these things. If I were you, then I would select TWRP comparatively.

I hope the post came in handy for the flashing. If you are facing any issues in following any of these steps, then feel free to drop a comment. One of us from our team will get back to you quickly. Also, go through the other posts as well. Thanks!
