9 Important Things To Keep In Mind Before Your Moving Day

It goes without saying that moving day could be very stressful. This is because there will be so many things to accomplish before the big day. If you are disorganized, it is simple to forget some things. Here are 9 things that you should prepare before your moving day.

Find and book your mover

It’s crucial to book your mover at least two to three weeks before your move. Don’t wait until the last minute to arrange this, because this is very crucial. You do not want your mover to be out of commission or fully booked on your designated day.

Boxes and packing materials

There is nothing worse than needing additional boxes the night before your move while everything is closed. To prevent this from happening, order your boxes and packing supplies earlier than you think you will need. If you know someone who recently relocated, you can also ask them if they have spare boxes for you to use, because it is likely they won’t need them again.

Start packing in advance

If you are a busy person, start packing your house well in advance. Even one box per night is better than nothing when it comes to packing. It is not ideal to hurriedly pack the night before the move or, in some cases, the morning of the relocation. Being unprepared on moving day and having to pack under stress while the movers load the truck is one of the main causes of an inadequate move. All disorganized little things can be the reason why you have to pay extra costs for your mover.

Sort through your things and decide what to discard or donate

Sorting through everything is a great way to declutter before moving. This covers all of your household goods, such as your furniture, books, clothes, footwear, children’s toys, and anything else you can think of. To stay organized while packing, you can create a list of things that you want to keep, donate, and dispose of. When it comes to furniture, you have two options: either arrange for it to be picked up during hard waste collection or donate it to charitable organizations. The latter might be more useful than the previous.

Clean everything thoroughly

You definitely do not want to leave your old house dirty and unclean.  If you are renting your old home –as a good courtesy to the landlord, make sure to clean and keep your old house in spotless condition before moving out. Notify appropriate parties of the change of address

This includes your friends and family, as well as banks and other financial institutions, insurance providers, veterinarians, organizations for vehicle registration and driver’s licenses, and subscriptions. Make sure to notify all important parties of your change of address to avoid confusion in the future.

Prepare your washing machine and refrigerator

Some items, like your refrigerator or washing machine, need to be ready before they are relocated. As your moving day draws near, start lowering the amount of food in your fridge and pantry because you don’t want to have to haul a lot of perishable items. If you are unable to perform these tasks by yourself, your mover can do them for you.

The washing machine needs to be unhooked from the faucets and transport poles need to be installed. If you have an older refrigerator, you might need to wait until you get to your new house before using it again. Read the user handbook that came with your appliances if you’re not sure what to do with them.

Organize truck parking and lift bookings if required

If you reside in an apartment complex with a lift, you may occasionally need to reserve both the loading dock for the truck and the elevators for exclusive use. Each apartment building is different, so make sure to confirm this with your building management or concierge beforehand.

Set up your new home’s utilities

You don’t want to move into your new house the night before and discover that there is no water, gas, or power. Make sure to set up all of your utilities before moving day so you are free from additional stress!
